Overall Job Purpose

Responsible for executing the tax engagements from start to finish, i.e., planning, executing and delivery, following the tax practice guidelines in the most effective and efficient manner.

Roles and Responsibilities

Business Development and Client Relationship Management

  • Proactively interact with key client management to gather information, resolve tax – related problems, and make recommendations for business and process improvements
  • Delivering client service according to relevant company standards, policies and ethical principles
  • Prepare proposals, engagement letters and budgets to assist in acquisition of new clients
  • Prepare initial draft reports and other client and external communications

Practice Management and Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Delivery of designated Tax engagements/projects and managing the implementation of agreed deliverables within time and cost from start to finish i.e., planning, executing, directing, and completing tax assignments
  • Identify and discuss risks with the Manager on a timely basis
  • Provide detailed review and analysis of complex tax returns
  • Manage client needs with respect to tax services and tax compliance
  • Prepare tax planning and transaction structuring opinions that aim to enable tax-efficient execution of financial plans
  • Provide tax advisory on VAT, customs duties and income tax – corporation tax, personal tax, residential rental income tax, capital gains tax, withholding tax, fringe benefit tax and PAYE
  • Conduct tax compliance reviews and tax due diligence highlighting tax exposures and tax planning opportunities
  • Review tax returns prepared by staff and make recommendations regarding accuracy and tax savings opportunities
  • Prepare tax training material and newsletters
  • Preparation of Transfer Pricing Policy documents
  • Obtain private tax rulings from KRA and resolve tax disputes

Team Leadership & Operational Support

  • Develop people through effectively delegating tasks and providing guidance to junior staff
  • Share knowledge with team members e.g., best practices, provide on-the-job training
  • Any other tasks reasonably assigned by the management from time to time and within the required skill set

Skills and Competencies/ Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting with specialisation in a tax professional qualification
  • Specialisation in a Tax professional qualification - Post graduate Diploma in Tax Administration) is preferred, or other qualification, e.g., CA, CPA or ACCA
  • Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience, preferably in tax consulting in a public accounting firm
  • Possess an understanding of State and foreign tax legislations and tax treaties
  • Excellent project management, analytical, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Professionalism, dependability, integrity and trustworthiness combined with a cooperative attitude
  • Highly motivated self-starter with ability to multitask and complete assignments within time constraints and deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software programs, including spreadsheet programs
